The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established in 1967 and formed the ASEAN Economic Community in 2016 to promote various economic cooperation and integration initiatives. The South Asian countries headed by India are also gradually moving toward democratic reform and openness, both of which promote regional cooperation. The populations of the 10 countries in the ASEAN and 6 countries in South Asia are approaching 2.3 billion. The combined advantages of these countries in terms of geographical location, labor costs, and agricultural and mineral resources have attracted investment from many multinational companies. Business opportunities continue to grow, and spending power has risen sharply. However, many uncertainties and risks are still evident for those investing in these new southbound countries (terminology coined by Taiwan. For international scholars, they refer to the 10 ASEAN countries and 6 countries in South Asia) and include the following:

(1) The investment environment of these new southbound countries has changed considerably, with high investment barriers and high uncertainty.

(2) Nationalism and ethnocentrism in these new southbound countries are on the rise, consumer awareness is rising, and relevant concepts are being applied to commercial operations.

In light of the foregoing, Management Review intends to launch a special issue called “Economic Cooperation and Business Management in the New Southbound Countries.” We invite scholars and professionals in related fields to propose original theoretical or empirical papers on the challenges and opportunities of economic integration and industrial management in these southbound countries. Relevant topics include but are not limited to the following:

1. Characteristics of the economic integration and development of new southbound countries.
2. Investment and entry modes in the new southbound countries.
3. Channels and marketing strategies in the markets of the new southbound countries.
4. Business network operation modes in the markets of the new southbound countries.
5. Consumer behavior models for the markets of the new southbound countries.
6. Resource allocation and business strategies of Taiwanese firms investing in the new southbound countries.
7. Regional integration and globalization strategies of multinational firms investing in the new southbound countries.
8. A review of the status quo and prospects for Taiwan’s new southbound policy.
